Gains Before Games
Let’s be honest — gamers get a bad rap.
We’re often painted as sedentary, sleep-deprived, or disconnected from “real life.”
But we know that’s not the full picture.
Our community is creative, intelligent, passionate — and capable of extraordinary focus.
That’s why Gains Before Games exists — to help gamers live their best lives by leveraging the games we love for the life we want, to maximize holistic health, mental stamina, and physical strength.
A new recipe for life
Before we log in, queue up, or pick up the controller, there’s one mission that always comes first — taking care of you.
This isn’t about perfection or performance for the sake of it.
It’s about creating consistency, energy, and confidence so you can show up stronger in every arena — in your work, in your relationships, and yes, even in your games.
The goal is simple: to help our community grow physically, mentally, and meaningfully. Here, we want to provide resources to help every gamer level up their lives so they can have meaningful adventures outside of their games, too.
My Story
As I aged, I realized it was time to start taking my health seriously.
I loved gaming, teaching, and storytelling — but I wasn’t giving my body the same level of care I gave my ideas.
So, I joined a local gym and started small: learning to lift, tracking nutrition, and developing the disciplines of a healthier lifestyle. It wasn’t easy. But little by little, I built consistency — and that changed everything.
I gained muscle, lost weight, and found energy I didn’t know I was missing. For the last decade, that’s been my rhythm — steady, intentional, and real.
And here’s the thing: it never pulled me away from gaming. It just helped me put everything in the right order.
Now, I’m paying it forward — sharing the lessons, resources, and routines that helped me find balance and strength.
That’s what Gains Before Games is all about:
Not choosing between the things you love, but living in a way that lets you enjoy them more fully. Because when you live like you meant to, you can game like you want to.
Below, I’ve included a few of the resources that have been helpful to me. I hope you’ll check them out. In time, I hope to add testimonials from the community, stories that might inspire others. If you’d like to be a part of that, please reach out!

Level up your training
For anyone ready to go beyond the basics, I highly recommend the ATS Method, developed by my coach and friend Drew Shamblin right here in Tuscaloosa, AL.
You’ll learn how to train efficiently, recover properly, and stay consistent long term.
Whether you’re starting fresh or pushing new limits, the ATS Method is your roadmap to lasting change — and a key part of how I live the Gains Before Games lifestyle every day.
Regardless of where you are in the world, he’ll work with you remotely. Be sure to tell him Prof sent you!
